Wig Sizing Guide
Wig Sizing Guide
Find your perfect wig size in three easy measurements
A wig that fits well stays put, feels secure, and looks like it grew there. A wig that doesn't will slide, pinch, or lift at the hairline. Ten minutes with a soft tape measure saves you both the guesswork and the returns.
Why fit matters more than you think
Most wigs come in petite, average, and large caps, and most women assume average is a safe bet. Often it is. But a cap that is even a little too big creeps backward during the day, and one that is too small presses behind the ears and can wear out a lace front early. Knowing your numbers means you can shop any brand with confidence.
You will need a soft fabric tape measure (the kind used for sewing). If you plan to wear your wig over your own hair, wrap or braid it flat first so your measurements match how you will actually wear it. Watch a quick hair-wrap tutorial.
The three measurements
This is the one most size charts are built on.
- Place the end of the tape at the center of your front hairline.
- Run it along your hairline, just above the ear, down to the nape where your hair stops.
- Bring it back up the other side to where you started.
- Note the number.
This tells you how the cap will sit across the crown.
- Find your "top of head" point: about 7 inches back from your front hairline.
- Start the tape at your hairline directly above one ear.
- Run it up and over that top point and down to the hairline above the opposite ear.
- Note the number.
This catches a longer or shorter head shape that circumference alone can miss.
- Start the tape at the center of your front hairline.
- Run it straight back over the top of your head.
- Stop at the hairline at the nape of your neck.
- Note the number.
Match your numbers to a cap size
Compare all three measurements to the chart. If they land in different rows, go with the size that fits your largest measurement. Most caps have adjustable straps at the nape, so it is easier to snug up a cap that is slightly roomy than to stretch one that is too tight.
| Cap size | Circumference | Ear to ear | Front to nape |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petite | 21" | 13" | 13¼" |
| Petite / Average | 21¼" | 13¼" | 13¾" |
| Average | 21½" | 13½" | 14¼" |
| Average / Large | 22¼" | 13¾" | 14¾" |
| Large | 23" | 14" | 15½" |
Sizing varies a little from brand to brand. Most of the styles we carry come in an average cap with adjustable straps; if you measure petite or large, check the product page or message us and we will point you to the right styles.
See it done
Watching someone take the measurements once makes the whole thing click.
Size is the start, not the whole story
Once you know your cap size, the rest of the fit comes down to how you live and what you want from your hair.
Your routine
Active days and warm climates call for a lighter, more breathable cap. If you are on the go, look for combs and a secure nape strap.
Your hairline
A lace front lets you wear hair off your face. If you always wear bangs or a side sweep, a basic cap does the job for less.
Your comfort
Wearing a wig daily? A soft, hand-tied or monofilament top feels gentler on the scalp and parts more naturally.
